Description
All the Lovely Losers is the fourth full-length studio album by the American singer and songwriter Jason Gray, released on Centricity Music in March 2007. (8 tracks of this 12-track album are taken from Jason’s 2005 independently released album The Better Part of Me with altered track-listing. The other four tracks, namely “Sing Through Me”, “You Are Mercy”, “Into the Mystery” and “Someday (The Butterfly)” are new tracks not found in the earlier album. The album was credited to Jason Gay prior to him changing his artistic name to Jason Gray in 2006 with signing with Centricity.)
This Minnesota songsmith has been plying his trade for many years as an independent artist, but with ‘All The Lovely Losers’ has got that big break courtesy of Centricity Records – and he has made the most of it. There’s slick production and excellent backing musicianship but they are just the vehicles to demonstrate that Gray is an artist with a clear talent. Jason is a clever, poetic lyricist – “You shine through the cracks where I was shattered/ Because you pour out your grace through my broken places.” He clearly expresses his faith but in a very personal and subtle way that makes his songs highly accessible to just about anyone. His sound is fairly generic country tinged pop rock with some extremely well written acoustic guitar and piano-driven melodies and delicate pop hooks. ‘All the Lovely Losers’ is a debut with a standard far higher than you might expect. Here is a singer and songwriter well worth the time and effort to investigate. [Martin Kendrick, Cross Rhythms, June 2007]
