Description
A Time for Courage is the fifth album by the American singer and songwriter Jamie Owens-Collins, released on Live Oak Records in 1985, distributed by Word. Also manufactured and distributed by A&M Records. The album was recorded by Bill Cobb, Ron Capone, and Win Kutz at Bill Schnee Studios in North Hollywood, Westwind Studios in Thousand Oaks, and at Poiema Studios in Camarillo, California; with Dan Collins producing. Mixed by Collins at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California.
‘A Time for Courage’ is a pleasant soft-pop album that sounds like Amy Grant, ca ‘My Father’s Eyes‘. There’s obviously a market for the middle-of-the-road pop and Owens-Collins’ wispy, thin voice, and there’s been a lot of love lavished on this project, her first in four years.
Although most of the tunes sounds pretty much the same, three do stand out: the heartfelt closing ballad «Hearts Courageous» and a couple of the more uptempo cuts, «Shine Your Light» and «Never Turn Around». Otherwise, though, this is for hard-core MOR fans only. [Bob Darden, CCM, July 1985]
