My Father’s Eyes

Description

My Father’s Eyes is the sophomore studio album by the American singer and songwriter Amy Grant, released on Myrrh Records in April 1979, a division of Word. The album was recorded at Gold Mine Studio in Brentwood, Tennessee; with Brown Bannister producing. Amy Grant wrote or co-wrote 8 of the 13 songs. Also featuring a cover of Jesse Winchester’s “Lay Down (The Burden Of Your Heart)” as well as “Father’s Eyes” written by Gary Chapman. The album track “Faith Walkin’ People” was later covered by gospel/funk group Passage on their self-titled album released on A&M Records in 1981. My Father’s Eyes was “Album of the Month” for May at Word Records.

My Father’s Eyes was included among CCM Magazine’s Top 10 MOR/Inspirational and Misc. Albums of 1979 – This is the year we learned that Amy Grant has a lot more going for her than a good producer. Her songwriting abilities have blossomed and her vocals are sensitive and versatile to match the range of fine material included on this very commendable album.

Second verse, same as the first. Amy plays it safe here, repeating the formula by staying within the mellow confines of her debut. Songwriters this time include Brown Bannister, Gary Chapman, Marty McCall, Stephanie Boosahda and Amy herself. Contains «Father’s Eyes», «Never Give You Up», «There Will Never Be Another» and irritating novelty song #2 «Giggle» [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
