Glad – Floodgates

Description

Floodgates is an album by the American vocal group Glad, released on Benson in 1992, distributed by Benson Music Group. The album was recorded by John Hampton, Kevin Myers, and Paul Salveson at 21st Street Recording in Purcellville, Virginia with additional recording at Sound Revolutions in Nashville, Tennessee; and was produced by group member Ed Nalle. Mixed by Nalle and Hampton at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Featuring a cover of “Which Way The Wind Blows“, a song written by Annie Herring and Nellie Ward of 2nd Chapter of Acts fame.

Glad features Ed Nalle (lead vocals), Jeff Hamlin (keyboards and vocals), Chris Davis (guitar and vocals), Jim Bullard (bass and vocals), and John Gates (drums and vocals).

Once upon a time most Christian albums were recorded in Los Angeles. Nowadays Nashville, Tennessee is where it all happens. But here’s one album that proves there is life outside of the capital of country music. It was chiefly recorded in Purcellville, Virginia hometown to American vocal band Glad. Purcell himself would have loved the singing of these guys. Though known of late for their acappella performances, on this album they only down tools for one track – «Hallelujah» – a song on a par with Annie Herring’s «Easter Song». Coincidentally, the set opens with another 2nd Chapter Of Acts 70s classic – «Which Way The Wind Blows». The remaining tracks are either written by members of Glad or tailor made for them. There’s nothing controversial here, with songs about God’s kingdom on earth and other themes from the gospels, but the predictability of the lyrics are happily made up for by the quality of the music. A dazzling production by lead vocalist Ed Nalle brings out the best in the band’s instrumental work that is almost equal to their renowned vocals. So having proven that they can play brilliantly as well as sing, let’s hope the next album displays a more original standard of lyric writing. You can do it, guys!
