Trashbone Thang is the solo debut album by the British singer and songwriter Dan Donovan of Tribe of Dan fame, independently released in the UK on Sticky Music in 1993. The album was recorded and mixed by Charlie Irvine and Steve Butler, assisted by Ian Fergus, at Heaven Studios in Dalry, Scotland. All songs written by Dan Donovan.
Featuring Dan Donovan on lead vocals, guitar, bass, mouthorgan, and percussion, backed by guest musicians Dot Reid and Steve Butler on keyboards, Matt Middleton on drums and percussion, with David Birss and Drew McCulloch providing mouthorgan and tambourine, respectively. Sonic samples (“water breath, native, whale’n’noise loading thang”) by Charlie Irvine.
Having never gained my antlers as a moosketeer, I’ve always been an outsider looking in puzzling as to what it was that gained Tribe Of Dan such a cult following. But now with this solo from head moose, sanctified loony and impassioned singer/songwriter all is at last becoming clear. With his singer/songwriter all is at last becoming clear. CCM buffs will despair of Dan’s determination to keep his faith, a mere light flickering in a swirling vortex of thoughts and feelings, some of which even he would be hard put to explain. Great art?
