Description
The self-titled debut album by the American pop duo Considering Lily (Serene Campbell and Pearl Barrett – formerly known as Serene & Pearl) was released on Forefront Records in 1997, distributed by Chordant Distribution Group. Marketed and distributed in Europe by Alliance Music. The album was was produced by Brent Milligan (except track 9 produced by Michael Anderson). Mixed by Shane D. Wilson at Antenna Studios in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Midshipman Rimmer was struck with this New Zealand born duo’s debut, as Serene And Pearl. But with producer Brent Milligan now bringing in a grunge-tinged Alanis Morissette indie pop sound around the girls it’s clearly been thought that a name change is in order. Must admit the Considering Lily moniker sounds like a dire ’60s musical to me but I’ll let that pass. Those haunting, occasionally eerie harmonies are still there as are the upfront lyrics (“Jesus in you makes you shine” – «Beautiful You»; “I’m so thirsty Lord” – «Cup») which makes a change from the irritating abstract metaphors of Over The Rhine, Sarah Masen and others with a similar indie pop style. So there you are, if you like the idea of nasal, little girl lost voices, across plenty of grungy guitar, and songs that speak of spiritual warfare, holiness and other vital topics, this one’s for you.
