Description
Windswept Melodies is an instrumental album by the American harpist Cindy Reynolds Wyatt, released on Sha La Vah Records in 1986, distributed by The Benson Company. (Sha La Vah Records was The Benson Company’s entry into the “contemplative praise music” marketplace, launched by Benson in late 1986 through two sampler albums.) The album was digitally recorded and mixed by Joe Wilson at the Master’s Touch in Nashville, Tennessee; with Lari Goss producing. All songs written by Cindy Reynolds Wyatt except track B3 co-written with Charles Wyatt, as well as track B4, the trad. “Lo How A Rose Ere Blooming” (a.k.a. “Behold a Rose of Judah”) arranged by Cindy Reynolds Wyatt.
Unless you are predisposed to enjoying classical music in general and the harp in particular, this recording, even more so than ‘Reflections of Ivory‘, will have you turning to the devotional booklet. Recently, musicians like Andreas Vollenweider have done much to erase the “high-brow” status accorded harp music. ‘Windswept Melodies’, however, while displaying the talents of the obviously gifted Wyatt, contains most of the cliches and musical exaggerations associated with classical harp. The joyous and lovely flute playing of Charles Wyatt saves the session. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, February 1987]
