Do You Have a Problem with That? is the debut album by the American R&B/Latin artist Chuckie P. (a.k.a. Chuckie Perez), released on Arcade Records in 1990, a short-lived urban dance music label associated with Maranatha! Music.

Chuckie P. (Perez) is a handsome Latino who has a fine singing voice and decent credentials as a songwriter. His producers, Troy Johnson and David Guzman, give him several strong rhythm tracks with which to work. But the real sizzle on ‘Do You Have…’ comes more from the guest stars than the host. The rappin’ Dynamic Twins invest the title track with smokin’ production assistance, and Chuckie consequently lays down one of his best vocals. The twins are also in full effect on «You’ve Got No Hold!» as is rapper M.C. Scroller on «Let Me B Me». Chuckie is a pretty good rapper himself, as evidenced on «Moments». But the youngster is outclassed by Crystal Lewis‘ support vocal on «Excited, Delighted».

The moments where Perez cuts loose are few and far between, «You Can Depend on Me» being one of them. Over a bed of Latin percussion, Chuckie wails alongside guest Jon Gibson. It would have been interesting to hear more of Chuckie’s ethnic heritage come through, e.g. the Latin stylings on M.C. GeGee’s debut. But little on ‘Do You Have…’ elevates it above the average “hip-hop lite” permeating much of Christian music. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, March 1991]

Chuckie Perez is a good funky vocalist and with snappy dance hooks and some tricky programming from producers Troy Johnson and David Guzzman this is excellent ‘sanctified dance’. There are guest appearances from Jon Gibson and Crystal Lewis and the lyrics are OK in terms of lightweight communication of spiritual truth. I’d like to see heavier mix of the best couple of jams out on a 12-inch but that apart, this is good-for-the-feet pop soul gospel which gets better every play.
