Description
Waterline is the major label debut album by the American rock band In Reach fronted by singer/songwriter Brett Williams, released on StarSong Records in 1992. The album was recorded by Charles Mesrole, David Zaffiro, and David Dysart at Triad Studios in Redmond, Washington; with Mesrole and Zaffiro producing. Mixed at Klub Key’s by Mesrole and Zaffiro, as well as Chris Fuhrman (tracks: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10).
In Reach features Brett Williams on lead vocals and guitars, Mike Bell on keyboards, and a rhythm section consisting of Scott Burell on bass and Vince Grant on drums.
This polished young band first crept out of the underground in 1988 when, as The Reach, it released its ‘Under The Same Sky’ cassette. Although it was a respectable beginning, producer David Zaffiro (Zion, Bloodgood) seemed of a mind to make the band the next White Heart. Four years on, In Reach has settled comfortably into a post-modern pop groove, reminiscent of “jingle-jangle” bands like The Grapes and Wrath; and ‘Waterline’ reintroduces perhaps the only Seattle band not riding in Nirvana’s wake. Singer/songwriter Brett Williams’ earnest approach will no doubt appeal to those who like some depth to their lyrics. For example, «The Other Fall of Cambrai» uses the metaphor of war to describe how revival shook a French town which had twice been destroyed in battle, while “Prayer moves the arm/ That rules the world/ To deliver me” (from the title track) seems to be Williams’ operative statement about the power of God in his life.
