Angie Alan

Description

The self-titled debut album by the American singer and songwriter Angie Alan was released on Frontline Records in 1990. The album was produced by Tim Miner.

The self-titled debut album from Angie Alan doesn’t waste time letting listeners know what she’s about. Both stylistically and lyrically the artist steps out with deliberation. It’s the dance/pop sound of the 90’s and it’s laced throughout every track. Chock full of the programmed drum sounds and bright, funky beat that brought Paula Abdul and Debbie Gibson to the top of the mainstream, this record makes no bones about it’s top 40 slant. Although the production leaves out any discernable edge, and Alan’s vocals aren’t much like the aforementioned artists, the style is quite the same, and this record could be played with success right up there on any teen-oriented radio station.

Alan shares songwriting credits on most of the tunes with her producer, Tim Miner, and the duo comes up full force with a rather poetic lyrical style. One song, «Today», talks about taking time out from our busy, pampered lives to simply care enough to do something about the homeless and the shut-ins. Another tune, «Sunny Side», starts off innocently enough with a moderately funky groove, but evolves into the most get-down danceable R&B tune on the tape. Interesting stuff.
