Description
Blueprints for the Black Market is the debut studio album by the American alternative rock band Anberlin, released on Tooth & Nail Records in May 2003. The album was produced and recorded by Aaron Sprinkle of Poor Old Lu fame at Compound Recording in Seattle, Washington. (Pre-production by Matt Goldman and Kyle Scholler at Glow In The Dark Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.) Mixed by J.R. McNeely and Sprinkle at Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver, Canada. All songs written by the band, except track 9 (a cover of “Love Song” by The Cure).
Anberlin features Stephen Christian on lead vocals; Joey Bruce and Joseph Milligan on guitars; Deon Rexroat on bass; and Nathan Young on drums.
No doubt the quality of this new-to-the-UK Florida band was conveyed by the storming track «Ready Fuels» on the sampler accompanying Cross Rhythms 74. I’m delighted to report that the whole album is of a similar quality with «Foreign Language» also sounding like a radio hit with its melodic force and driving fluidity recalling bands like the Foo Fighters and Superdrag. When you get Tooth & Nail, who down the years have released shedloads of albums, declaring that ‘Blueprint For A Black Market’ is “truly one of the best albums we have released,” there can be little doubt that this is something special. A must for every rock buff. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, November 2003]
