Jesus said…

Description

Jesus said… is the third solo album by the British singer and songwriter Alwyn Wall of Malcolm & Alwyn fame, independently released on Daval Music in 2000, originally released by Committed Records entitled The Happy Lambs and featuring different cover artwork. The album was produced, engineered and mastered by Norman Barratt with Alwyn Wall co-producing. All songs written by Alwyn Wall.

Featuring Alwyn Wall on acoustic guitars and vocals, Norman Barratt on electric guitars, Nigel Hill on keyboards, and Ian Gilchrist on saxophone.

Here’s one to produce a flush of expectation amongst Jesus Music wrinklies. As older buffs will tell you, Alwyn was half of Malcolm & Alwyn, the Delirious? of their day, and now pastors a Calvary Chapel church in London. This intelligent, lovingly crafted album, a mix of worship and performance songs, demonstrates the Welsh veteran has lost none of his musical ability and with a fine production from another dues-paying veteran Norman Barratt, the whole thing manages to sound as fresh as a morning dip in a mountain stream. My only small gripe is that a couple of tracks go for a defiantly retro, old time boogie feel which kind of distract from the sensitive biblical songwriting and deftly textured accompaniments elsewhere. No matter. This is still a most welcome return from a major musical talent. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, May 2001]
