Description
Great, Great Joy, sub-titled Jesus Music with the message of forever, performed by 10 great Myrrh artists and groups!, is a multi-artist compilation released on Myrrh Records in 1977, a division of Word. The sampler album was presented in the Gospel section of Billboard Magazine June 4, 1977, under the heading New Promo Concept: Myrrh Sampler LP. 10 acts and $20,000 Budget. The album was also released in Europe by Blue Rose Production GmbH.
According to an article entitled ‘$75,000 Gospel Gamble Success. 3-Month Myrrh Records Push Spurs Contemporary LPs‘, published in the April 2, 1977 issue of Billboard Magazine, “‘Great Great Joy’ is aimed at the Christian music market and ‘Power Music‘ is aimed at the secular markets. Both LPs are collections from Myrrh albums and the Myrrh Jubilation group albums..”
There’s Great, Great Joy in Jesus! And the best way to express joy is to praise the Lord in song! Myrrh recording artists from all over America are represented on this album with songs specifically selected from their own great albums of Jesus Music.
This collection of songs opens with Chris Christian singing “Great, Great Joy.” Honeytree then sings “Say You Told Me So,” and The Pat Terry Group praises the Lord’s greatness in “Nothing that You Can’t Do.” In “See this House,” Michael Omartian shares what shambles a life can be without Christ, and Suncast completes Side One with another song of praise, entitled “Glory.”
“Great, Great Joy” continues on Side Two with Limpic & Rayburn’s invitation to “Come to the River” and drink of the healing waters. The 2nd Chapter of Acts express their dependency on the Father’s love and presence in “Morning Comes When You Call,” and the SonLight Orchestra performs and instrumental rendition of the song, “It Took a Carpenter (To Tear Down My Walls).” Randy Matthews then sings of Jesus as our “Captain” who will see us through the worst of storms, and David Meece brings the entire collection of joy songs to a grand finale with his song “Jesus,” in which he sings that Jesus is his heart, his soul, his mind… everything he needs.
In fact, that’s what all of the singers are saying. The Lord is “everything”! This album begins and ends with that message, and there’s a lot of Great, Great Joy in-between! [Liner notes printed on the back of the LP sleeve]
