Pratt & McClain featuring “Happy Days” is the sophomore and final album by the American pop/rock duo Pratt/McClain (Truett Pratt and Jerry McClain), released on Reprise Records in 1976, a division of Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded by Phil Kaye, Howard Gale, and Roger Nichols at ABC Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California; with Michael Omartian and Steve Barri producing. Arranged by Omartian. Featuring “Who Needs It” and “Whachersign” written by Michael and Stormie Omartian.
In 2017, “Whachersign” (the original extended promo only version) was included on a sampler album entitled Too Slow to Disco, Volume 3, a mainstream compilation series of ’70s Westcoast Yachtpop.
«Happy Days» went to No 5 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1976, and was included on Pratt & McClain’s second LP, ‘Pratt & McClain Featuring Happy Days’. The single also peaked at No 31 in the UK Singles Chart. The follow-up, a cover of Mitch Ryder’s «Devil With the Blue Dress On», peaked at US No 71 in the summer of 1976.
«Happy Days» is a song written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox. It is the theme tune to Happy Days. It can be heard during the TV show’s opening and closing credits as it runs in perpetual rerun syndication. The song was first recorded in 1974 by Jim Haas for season 1. Haas re-recorded it later that year for season 2. These versions of the song were only used durng the closing credits of seasons 1-2, with «Rock Around The Clock» by Bill Haley and His Comets being the opening theme. The song was later recorded in 1975 by Pratt & McClain for both the opening and closing credits of seasons 3-10, with different lyrics. Bobby Arvon later recorded the song in 1983 for the opening and closing credits of season 11, with the same lyrics as the version by Pratt & McClain.
