Silent Movies is the sophomore and final vocal album by the American singer and songwriter Larry Bryant, released on Word Records in 1987. The album was recorded by Niki Mikals with Joe Huffman producing. Mixed by Mike Psanos. String and horn arrangements by Reed Arvin.
‘Silent Movies’ is a reel of radio pop with lyrics that occasionally stick it to Christendom’s self-righteous side. The title track says, “We ought to be the ones who play no roles/ We ought to have real words to share.” Bryant does just that. His lyrical strengths are especially evident on the album’s first single, «Sometimes I’m Samson». Other songs include warnings against dating unbelievers («Once You Give Your Heart Away»), thoughts on God’s forgiveness («East and West»), and barbed comments on Christians who don’t care («Life Goes On»). No need for subtitles – Bryant gets his point across loud and clear. [Mark Eischer, CCM, April 1988]
