Gabriel

Description

The self-titled album by the American pop duo Gabriel (Jeff Walter and Robin Lyle) was released on Parable Records in 1979, a division of Paul Wayne Productions. The album was recorded by Tom Russell at Bingham’s Ranch Studio on Tulsa, Oklahoma; with Wayne Boosahda and “Moose” Smith producing for Parable Records, assisted by Russell.

There’s a gap in your record collection between Air Supply and England Dan & John Ford Coley – a gap that the male duo Gabriel stands ready to fill. As long as you don’t mind your music on the pop/CCM side, Jeff Walter and Robin Lyle will suit you just fine with their well-produced soft-rock and ballads custom. Actually some catchy songs in here, and a few like «Children» or «You Were There» could just as easily be found tucked away within a Sweet Comfort Band or Hope Of Glory album. From pure CCM (a cover of «What A Difference») to disco («Jesus Has Made My Life Come True») to strolling boogie rock («Whom The Son Sets Free»). A few familiar names in the credits, including David Stearman (acoustic guitar, string arrangements), Moose Smith (electric guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, horn arrangements) and Stephanie Boosahda (keyboards, backup vocals). From Arlington, Texas, on a Tulsa, Oklahoma custom label. They recorded several subsequent LPs. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
