Description
Inspiration is an album by the American singer and songwriter Dony McGuire, released on Light Records in 1981. The album was recorded and mixed by Warren Peterson – assisted by Steve Fralick, Lee Groitzsch, and Vicky Hicks – at Sound Stage Studios/Front Stage in Nashville, Tennessee; with Dony McGuire and Peterson producing for Productions of McGuire, except vocals produced by Reba Rambo. Rhythm tracks and vocals arranged by Dony McGuire with strings and horns arranged by Buddy Skipper. All songs written or co-written by Dony McGuire except the two instrumental tracks.
Featuring Dony McGuire on acoustic piano, Yamaha Electric Grand Piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano; Ron Fairchild on synthesizer; Denis Solee on saxophone; Bill Kenner on electric rhythm and mandolins; B. James Lowry on electric guitar; Jessie Boyce on bass; Fred Satterfield on drums, and Farrell Morris on percussion. Featuring vocals by Reba Rambo, Rebecca Ed, Demitris Alexander, and Dony McGuire.
No matter how quickly Dony McGuire writes songs – alone, or with the assistance of his wife, Reba, or a number of other fine lyricists such as Bill and Gloria Gaither – there are always plenty of artists in contemporary Christian music ready and waiting to record them. Now Dony has recorded some of his best, along with an instrumental written by arranger Buddy Skipper (providing the title for the LP) and another by Jimmy Pearce.
With the help of a bevy of fine players and vocalists and production people, McGuire again demonstrates his songwriting, production and musical talents. This MOR album filled with near standards is moving, delightful, and, perhaps needless to say, very well played.
