Description
Live in South Philly – an acoustic live album – is the debut by the American singer and songwriter Bill Romansky, later of Street Angel fame, released on Fourth Man Records in 1979, a division of Messiah – Gateway. The album was recorded by Bernie Gillot live at Messiah-Gateway in South Philly, September 29, 1978, and was produced by Bud Pirollo, Bruce Sofia, and Bill Romansky. Front cover artwork by Bruce Sofia.
Bill Romansky – you might recognize the name from some Larry Norman albums as a member of the Young Lions. He also had a couple albums in the ‘80s under the name Street Angel. His first album is a live acoustic concert – a simple approach with verbal exchange not unlike Randy Matthews’ Now Do You Understand (though I’m reminded more of early Ron Moore). It’s like being at a coffeehouse – just the man and his guitar (exchanged for a dobro on one occasion) strumming though titles like «Rock And Roll Of Ages», «I See A Hill», «To Be Like Him», «Militant», and «Drunkard». Nice bluesy playing, too – I’ve got a feeling I’d like the guy even if he didn’t sing. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
