Description
Lead Me is the full-length debut album by the Norwegian eight-piece vocal ensemble Bergen Jubilee Singers, released on the Norwegian gospel label Lu-Mi in 1979. (The group did also participate on a split-LP in 1976.) The album was recorded in both Norway and Sweden: by Christian Wille and Alf Emil Eik at Scanax Studio in Oslo, and by Björn Almstedt at Europa Film in Stockholm; with Finn Pedersen of Good News fame producing. Mixed by Björn Almstedt at Europa Film. Arranged by Finn Pedersen except vocals arranged by choir director Nils G. Abrahamsen. Lyrics are mostly trad. (except track A4 featuring lyrics by Øivind Pedersen) set to new music composed by Nils G. Abrahamsen (except track A4 written by Leif Strand and track B2 written by Øivind Pedersen). Lead Me was voted Album of the Year in the 1979 Readers Awards of the Norwegian gospel magazine Treff.
Vocals by Bergen Jubilee Singers: Grethe Gangsøy (solo on tracks B2 and B3) and Signe Lund Andreassen (solo on track B1) on soprano vocals; Inger Johanne Haaland and Marit Voll (solo on track A4) on alto vocals; Arne Andreassen and Bjørn Kåre Bolstad on tenor vocals; as well as Nils G. Abrahamsen and Øivind Pedersen on bass vocals. The vocal ensemble is backed by a session band featuring a mix of Norwegian and Swedish studio musicians: Kjell Öhman on acoustic piano; Per-Erik Hallin on acoustic piano (tracks A1 and A5) and organ; Nils G. Abrahamsen on acoustic piano (track B5); Finn Pedersen on electric piano and clavinet; Hasse Rosén on electric guitar; Pete Knutsen on lead guitar; Rolf Skogstrand on bass (as well providing solo vocals on track B3); Ola Brunkert on drums; and Svein Christiansen on percussion; with Ulf Andersson and Sven Larsson sitting in on saxophone and tuba respectively.
