Come On In is the debut album by the American country-rock group Children of the Light, released on Sparrow Records in 1977. The album was recorded June 1977 by Al Perkins assisted by Kenny Jacob at Studio 55 in Hollywood and Location Recorders in Burbank, California; with Perkins producing. Mixed by Perkins, assisted by Jacob, at Studio 55. String arrangements by Rick Crowell and Rob Pearsall.
Children Of The Light features Steven Steffy on acoustic guitar, Greg Fraser on electric guitar, Randy Boldt on keyboards, Dave Stanley on bass, and Bobby Chance on drums. (In 1976, Barry McGuire invited Children of the Light to perform Randy Boldt’s “Follow the Light” on his TV show, and also included the recording on the show’s album, released on Masterpeace later the same year. Then McGuire recorded his own version of the song for his C’mon Along album, also released in 1976. McGuire’s album got enough airplay that Sparrow Records signed Children of the Light.)
The album track “Come On In” was as well featured on Sparrow Spotlight Sampler, a multi-artist compilation released by Sparrow Records in 1978.
Sparrow’s contribution to the Christian country rock scene checks in only a step or two behind Maranatha front runners like The Way, Bethlehem and Daniel Amos. This five-man band’s album features Al Perkins at the production helm and a line-up of acoustic guitars, electric guitar leads, bass, drums, pedal steel, dobro, piano, congas and all that other good cowboy stuff. Nothing too rugged; just that natural relaxed easygoing rural groove with gentle melodies, airy harmonies and mellow instrumentation, slowing down for a couple string-orchestrated ballads. «Midnite Highway», «Blessed Trinity», «Born Over Again», «Ocean Blue», «The End», five more.
