Gonna Sing My Lord

Description

Gonna Sing My Lord, sub-titled Music for Worship, is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Joe Wise (a.k.a. Joseph Wise), released on Fontaine House in 1966, distributed by North American Liturgy Resources.

Moody Catholic folk-singer with a stirring voice and several well-known songs. Gonna Sing My Lord is his debut album, a very quiet, stark and solemn recording that has the feel of a live performance of folk spirituals. Simple low-key arrangements feature two guitars, banjo, bass and a few singers on the choruses. Includes what is perhaps his most popular song, «Take Our Bread». Several minor-key selections, including the title track and «Sing Praise To The Lord». A few brief liturgical refrains on side two. A humble start for one of the “founding fathers” that was there in the beginning beside Ray Repp and Paul Quinlan. [Ken Scott, The Archivist]
