Kingdom of Love

Description

Kingdom of Love is the eighth studio album by the American singer and songwriter Scott Wesley Brown, released on Sparrow Record in 1984. The album was recorded by Joe Neil and Bob Clark at Bullet Studios and Sound Emporium in Nashville, Tennessee; with Greg Nelson and Phil Naish producing. Mixed by Neil at Master Mix in Nashville.

A decidedly tougher edge is heard on Scott Wesley Brown’s latest offering, ‘Kingdom of Love’. Some songs still use big orchestral build ups, but electronic keyboards, drums, and other technological toys are also prominently displayed.

Brown’s lyrics have taken on a definite anthem-like quality, especially in the cuts «Peace by Peace», «The Wall», and «The Kingdom of Love». Looking closer at these songs, an obvious political message shines through. «The Wall», probably inspired by Brown’s recent trips to the Eastern bloc countries, uses the analogy of Joshua’s victory over the walls of Jericho.

Espousing for the first time a pacifist philosophy in «Peace by Peace», the artist sings, “Peace by Peace/ Not by war/ Peace by peace/ Children of the Lord.” Finally, «Kingdom of Love» wraps those ideas together under the kingdom banner of Jesus Christ.

«Yeshua Ha Mashiach», written by Greg Davis and Greg Fisher, goes back to the time of Christ, as a Jewish man finally meets his Messiah in the person of Jesus. Performed with Hebrew-inspired gusto, it’s no wonder this tune was released as the single. Speaking of gusto, Brown shares a hearty duet with black gospel singer Bob Bailey in «All of Us Together».

‘Kingdom of Love’ clearly demonstrates that Scott Wesley Brown is one of today’s pre-eminent Christian songwriters, and also a fine vocal stylist. This new LP will only add to his reputation. [Caroline Amedea, CCM, October 1984]
