Description
Person to Person is an album by the American singer and songwriter Lenny LeBlanc, released on Heartland Records in 1984, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was recorded and mixed by Greg McNeilly with Jon Phelps and Lenny LeBlanc producing. All songs co-written by Lenny LeBlanc and Ava Aldridge except track A5 written by LeBlanc only.
Lenny LeBlanc gained notoriety in the late ’70s through his thoughtful, easy-going ballads. After a big hit («Falling») with former partner Pete Carr, LeBlanc went solo and fell out of the pop spotlight. In 1981 LeBlanc accepted the Lord, and hooked up with Michele Pillar for a duet on her debut LP. By 1983, he recorded a Christian LP of his own, ‘Say a Prayer‘.
‘Person to Person’, LeBlanc’s second effort, displays his growing maturity in Christ. Where ‘Say a Prayer’ was somewhat sentimental, ‘Person to Person’ shows a greater taste of reality. Songwriting credit on all but one of the 10 songs shared with LeBlanc’s longtime writing partner, Ava Aldridge.
Songs include such topics as exhortation to the church («Practice What We Preach»), identifying those in need of evangelism («Desperado»), encouragement to fulfill the Great Commission in our own world («Louisiana Brother»), and realizing the omnipresence of God («He is the One»).
LeBlanc hasn’t much changed his approach to rhythm, melody, and harmony, except for deepening his southern, Muscle Shoals sound. With help from Mac McAnally, Will McFarlane, and Cindy Richardson, the vocals come off clear and direct. The famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section expertly laid the tracks upon which producer Jon Phelps and LeBlanc completed the musical structure.
When expertly-crafted melodies and mature lyrics are produced with finesse and creativity, an album like ‘Person to Person’ is the result. [Caroline Amedea, CCM, October 1984]
