Description
Listen to our Hearts, Vol. 2 is a multi-artist project released on Sparrow Records in 1999, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution Group. (The album also includes a second commentary disc entitled Moments, Devotions and Songs.) The various album tracks were recorded at Sound Kitchen in Franklin, Tennessee; and was produced by Phil Naish for NT Productions except tracks 1 and 7 produced by Brown Bannister for RBI Productions.
The first album in the Listen to our Hearts series was released the previous year, simply entitled Listen to our Hearts, Vol. 1, featuring female vocalists only.
Dear Friend,
The Sparrow Family of Artists is pleased to present our second offering in the “Listen To Our Hearts” series. It has been encouraging to all of us that so many of you have taken an interest in the hearts of the people who make the music. As Volume 1 featured the ladies of Sparrow in a fresh look-back at songs and hymns that are dear to them, Volume 2 features many of the men of Sparrow. Each has chosen a song that speaks today, uniquely from his own heart to the Lord.
Listen to these songs of worship and devotion, and hear the artists share about their families, struggles, lessons and lives. And may each of us be reminded of our own testimony of God’s redeeming presence within our everyday.
We hope you hear hearts drawn to worship. We hope you hear hearts honest and real. We hope you hear hearts a lot like your own – seeking after the eternal amidst the here and now.
And as you Listen To Our Hearts, we hope you find His.

Following the first ‘Listen To Our Hearts‘ from the ladies of Sparrow it’s time for the men. The artists include Steven Curtis Chapman, Wes King, Charlie Peacock with the curious addition of Keith Green to make ten. On CD one each has chosen a favourite song on which they comment in the liner notes. Most are quite recent although Avalon’s rendition of «Empty Page» is dated 1999, which is some 20 years after Nutshell first recorded it! It ends with a 1978 live recording of «Oh Lord, You’re Beautiful» from Keith Green. CD two is subtitled ‘Moments, devotions and songs’. Each artist shares something of what God is teaching him or doing in his life right now, at the end of which a track from his latest album is faded in – except of course the unique Keith Green, who contributes some words and a live track from a new compilation of his recordings. ‘Listen To Our Hearts’ is a good concept bringing these artists closer to the listener but as an album though I found the music rather too bland.
