Description
Kommand is the sole album by the American techno project SYCO (SYnth-sonic Christian Order), released on E-Beat in 1992, a division of Brentwood Music, distributed by Brentwood Music. The album was recorded by Rejean dé Grand Maison at Front Page Recorders in Costa Mesa, California; with T. Winston Feltcher, Michael Feltcher, and James Patrick producing (and writing all the tracks). Programmed by T. Winston Feltcher and Michael Feltcher. Mixed by Michael Feltcher and Mix Master Big House. “Read the Bible – much more than just kommands.”
Vocals by Brian Goodell, Darby Moran Byrum, James Patrick, and Mix Master Big House.
One of Word’s American rave discoveries, and an astonishingly good album it is too. It’s a fusion of rave, techno and rock which produces a style that’s quite mechanical and yet varied in an almost quirky manner. It is refreshingly scriptural too, with the simple theme of various Biblical commands. Indeed, titles such as «Thou Shalt Not Kill», «Burning Bush» and «Moses» give it a strong Old Testament identity. I think it’s the most intelligent use of rave music yet made by Christians. It’s so upfront that it will work in worship, in teaching, in evangelism and, hopefully, just for a darn good dance. The standout track for me is «Repent», with it’s insistent command backed up by a monstrous bass line. There aren’t many rave albums that are enjoyable to listen to outside of a rave setting, but this one truly is. This stuff is good for your raves, good for your youth group and good for your soul.
