Description
The Fashion Focus is the fourth full-length album by the American indie rock band Starflyer 59, released on Tooth & Nail Records in October 1998. The album was produced by Gene Eugene of Adam Again fame. It is the first album in the band’s main discography not to be adorned with a simple monochromatic cover
Jason Martin took his biggest gamble on The Fashion Focus, stripping away completely the thick walls of guitar that had become his stock-in-trade, transplanting keyboards and delicate solos. He shoved his vocals from the shadows and dared to let melody usurp immenseness. He solidified a full-band lineup – the result was Martin’s biggest success to date: a glorious pop record that challenged the convoluted concept that bigger is better and that shouting was the only way to be heard. “Stunning and gorgeous,” proclaimed the notoriously cynical Heckler magazine. “It doesn’t get much better than this.” Yeah Yeah Yeah concurred: “Scary, brilliant, addictive pop, too good to be ignored.” The record remained nestled in the CMJ Top 200 for months.
