Hope

Description

Hope is the eleventh studio album by the British singer Sheila Walsh, released by Integrity Music in 1998. The album was produced by Andy Piercy of After The Fire fame. Includes a cover of “Trapeze”, a song first recorded on her 1988-release Say So.

It is good to hear again the fine vocal talents of Sheila Walsh in this collection of songs which come very much from the heart. The album opens with «Saviour Of My Heart», a beautiful worship song with great depth to the lyrics. There are good arrangements of the well-known hymns, «I Know That My Redeemer Lives» and «Here Is Love Vast As The Ocean» as well as the carol «See Amid The Winter Snow». «God Is Faithful» is an excellent song of encouragement, written by Chris Eaton, and well suited to this album. There are a couple of low points on the album: I have always believed that it is a mistake to put new words to a famous tune. Though «Benediction» contains some great lyrics, they lose their impact when compared to the words of Isaac Watts’ «When I Survey The Wondrous Cross». Also, I find the title track «Hope» a bit flat and lacking the depth of the other songs. But apart from a few minor criticisms this is a fine album which I found a pleasure to listen to and am sure will minister to all who listen to it. [Martin Emerson, Cross Rhythms, February 1999]
