Description
The Lord’s Prayer, sub-titled Teach Us to Pray, is a multi-artist project featuring songs written by the American singer-songwriter duo Reba Rambo & Dony McGuire, released on Light Records in 1980. It’s a musical based on The Lord’s Prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer won a Grammy in the Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary or Inspirational category at the 23th Annual Grammy Awards, 1981. The album also won a Dove in the Praise & Worship Album category at the Gospel Music Association’s 12th Dove Awards, 1981. The album track “Forgive Me” was later covered by Donna Summer on her 1984-album, Cats Without Claws (a recording that would win Summer a Grammy in the Best Inspirational Performance category at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards).
It’s a real fix finding so many fine and devoted Christian artists all singing on one album you know they all can get behind theologically and musically. And the theme’s hard to beat: each song (written by Dony McGuire and Reba Rambo) is based on a line from The Lord’s Prayer. Space does not permit pronounced praises of the gifts of talented artists like Cynthia Clawson, B.J. Thomas, Tramaine & Walter Hawkins, The Archers, Reba Rambo, Andrae Crouch and Dony McGuire, not to mention Ronn Huff’s orchestration, Dony McGuire’s choral arrangements and the work of a group of excellent musicians and vocalists. All assist in making this a very classy LP. (P.S. Every song’s a prayer.) [CCM (Records – What’s New), November 1980]
