Cory Asbury – Let Me See Your Eyes

Description

Let Me See Your Eyes is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Cory Asbury, released on Forerunner Music in September 2009.

When taking only the music of this album Missouri-based worship leader at face value it comes across as vague and confused as it meanders, perplexingly, between soulful, passionate worship and hip-hop praise a little like Toby Mac. Some of the worship sounds a little like Robin Mark with some Celtic stylings and a penny whistle on «Hallelujah» and «Always Faithful». Cory’s voice is not too dissimilar to Matt Thiessen of Relient K while thematically the lyrics are clearly intended to channel the listener’s focus toward God rather than toward the music itself with plenty of Bible passages quoted, in particular the Psalms. Cory also uses his gift of tongues in his music. The clear focus on the Godhead enables one to overcome the jarring stylistic changes. And the song «Hallelujah» is a contemplative gem which would go down a storm in the global Church, if they ever got to hear it. [Andrew Townend, Cross Rhythms, August 2012]
