Nitro Praise Se7en: Cherish the Soul is the seventh installment of the American electronic dance music series Nitro Praise, released on N•Soul Records in 1999, distributed in the US by Diamante Music Group. Also marketed and distributed by Alliance Music in Europe. The album was recorded and mixed at Bruce’s Basement in Gurnee, Illinos; with Dave Ghazarian and Max Hsu producing (except tracks 2/10 recorded at Crown Town Studios and mixed at A Better Production Studio with Aaron De La Cruz producing, as well as tracks 3/11 produced by Joey Davis and tracks 5/13 and 6/14 produced by Maximillian).
There are two types of Christian music in dance culture. There are those who create new music that expresses their faith musically or lyrically and they escape the restrictions of the rock era of verses and choruses to get into new territory. Then there are those who take songs written in standard format and simply spread them over a dance groove. The latter are less interesting but for those who love worship songs and want to groove, the Nitro Praise series is ideal. If you’ve enjoyed the recent ‘Re:source 2000‘ album this series is an American equivalent. Dance and d’n’b versions of songs like «It Is Well With My Soul», «Great Is The Lord» and «I Love You Lord» all sound fresh and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the version of «Holy Ground» with the percussive backing vocals. This also gives you the complete selection of backing tracks so you can do some funky karaoke or you can have a raise party in your bedroom. Either way this is a groovy little album building on the previous volumes of the series. So it’s nothing new, just repackaging classic worship tunes for a new generation but it’s still cool!
