Description

Retrospective is a compilation album by the American pop-punk/indie rock band Ghoti Hook, released on Tooth & Nail Records in 2002.

Almost 11 years ago, the band burst onto the American music scene. Fast forward and it’s time for a greatest hits album from the popular Washington band. Ghoti Hook sound a lot like Green Day and Blink 182, which is not surprising since they have used Sean O’Dwyer to help produce some of their songs. Typically for a punk band, the songs are mainly three to four minutes long with shouty choruses. My favourite is «Tract Boy» where the only way a geeky Christian lad can relate to a girl is by giving her a tract and annoying her in the process. Some of the songs like «Gimme A Chance» and «Where Is My Mind» start off with acoustic guitar before exploding with full on punk energy. The closest you get to a ballad is «Next To Me», but don’t expect any quiet songs here. The only problem with this release is there are no lyrics and no track details, so unless you are a devoted fan, you have no idea when each track was recorded or which album they were on. Having said that, the CD is a very good representation of Ghoti’s career. They will be fondly remembered by a lot of people. [Peter John Willoughby, Cross Rhythms, October 2007]
