Description
Fall Babylon Fall is the debut album by the Swedish doom metal band Veni Domine, released in the UK on Edge Records in 1992. (Edge Records was a short-lived label established by Kingsway Music as a home for edgier, youth-orientated music.) Also released in the US on R.E.X. Records. The album was recorded June – October 1991 at ICC Studios in Eastbourne, England; and at Thunderload Studios in Stockholm, Sweden; and was produced by Matthias Kaufmann and the band with Ragne and Styrbjörn Wahlquist co-producing. Mixed at Thunderload Studios. All songs written by the band.
Veni Domine is Fredrik Ohlsson on lead and backing vocals as well as acoustic guitar, Torbjörn Weinesjö on lead and rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, and backing vocals, Magnus Thorman on bass and backing vocals, and Thomas Weinesjö on drums, tubular bells, and backing vocals. All keyboards on the album played by PA Danielsson.
That oracle of all metal knowledge Dave Williams informs me this is a potential classic. I know he’s Veni Domine’s manager but I think he’s right. The precise musical distinctions between doom, speed and the 101 other variants have long since lost me. I’ll content myself with the observation that this is the best white metal album to emerge from a British studio. The Swedish rockers, previously known as Seventh Seal, delivered at Greenbelt a year or two back, but nothing prepared this reviewer for the pomp, majesty and inventiveness as the team take us on a journey through the pages of Revelation with guts and at times dazzling dexterity. Play loud enough to make your ears bleed. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, February 1992]
