Description
Demolition, sub-titled Nine Explosive tracks from the Best of the Christian Underground, is a multi-artist compilation released on R.E.X. Music in 1992.
Finally I scored it on CD format. A great thing since it’s long out of print and R.E.X. Records folded over 2 decades ago. During the pre-internet era, (before free downloads) of the early 1990s, compilation albums like this were a great way to get a good listen on what was going on in the underground scene. As you may have already sensed from the title, it is a compilation of songs from various demo tapes submitted to the label. I still have the cassette that I mail ordered directly from R.E.X. Records when it was hot off the press in 1992. It was the fall of my senior year of high school, and I totally loved it. It was still the height of underground tape trading and buying via mail-order and/or fanzines. The variety (mostly metal) of styles and raw talent was amazing. The bands featured (a few I knew personally) were Sardonyx (melodic heavy/power metal) and thrashers like Mortal Enemy, Thresher, The Unknown, and Consecrator. As well there were the more “hard alternative” style bands like Hot Pink Turtle, Dodavahu, Abhor Evil, and (not to be confused with the Norwegian black metal band) Immortal. It was weighing more on the metal side, but also was a view into the Alternative/Post Grunge Rock craze that would dominate the American rock scene for the rest of the 1990s. There is not one weak song on this, and they did a great job selecting the most worthwhile of songs. They probably sifted through what was probably a mile high stack of tapes that numerous bands submitted. [DutchAmerican, 2018]
