Vanishing Lessons

Vanishing Lessons is the fourth album by the American thrash/progressive metal band Tourniquet, released on Intense Records in 1994, a division of Frontline Music Group releasing FMG’s industrial/metal output, distributed by Diamante Distribution. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Jim Faraci at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles, California. It is the first album to feature vocalist Luke Easter.

Reports of major stylistic change left me sceptical. How could a band that already had just about the most original sound for a metal band change, and keep their originality? Oh I of little faith. The obvious speed metal influences of the first three albums is practically nonexistent in this release, so are the howls of Mr Ritter. His role has now been replaced by the more versatile Luke Easter. The technicality of the songs is still mind blowing. Check Ted Kirkpatrick showing off his harpsichord and drumming abilities on «K517». There’s also a 60s/70s influenced rock ‘n’ roll song here called «Twilight». The ingredients of heavy guitars and stunning vocal melodies make this a great metal meal. [Matt Anderson, Cross Rhythms, February 1995]
