Master’s Command

Description

Master’s Command is the sophomore album by the American metal band Sacred Warrior, released on Intense Records in 1989, a division of Frontline Music Group, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was recorded by Dave Jahnsen at The Mixing Lab A and B in Garden Grove, California; with Jahnsen and the band producing.

Sacred Warrior follows up its impressive debut album with a solid effort. The band continues to express its energy, zeal and compassion with hard driving music, plus its members show that they’ve honed their chops a bit after spending some good time on the road.

Most of the songs are real heavy, progressive metal assaults on eager young ears. The drum and rhythm guitar sounds are mixed particularly well. Drummer Tony Valezquez kicks his double bass drums all over the album, while Rey Parra seems to attempt to expand the boundaries of tonal range with his wailing operatic vocals.

«The Flood», a duet between Parra and guest thrasher, Roger Martinez of Vengance, is quite a novelty because of the contrasting vocals, but comes off better in concert than it did here.

Hardcore metalheads will love Sacred Warrior’s straight ahead metal approach, but their two most commercial songs, «Paradise» and «Beyond the Mountain», will probably please a larger audience with their big, anthemic choruses and catchy hooks. These are two of the tunes that stay in your mind hours after hearing the album.

The higlight of the album has to be «Holy, Holy, Holy». This is some genuine worship at full volume! They usually close their show with this song, leaving the audience praising God. The chorus lifts the listeners right into the presence of God: “Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might/ Heaven and earth are filled with Your glory/ Hosanna, hosanna/ in the highest!” [Doug Van Pelt, CCM, October 1989]
