Description
Extraction from Mortality is the debut album by the American progressive thrash metal band Believer, released on R.E.X. Music in 1989. The album was recorded by Paul Krueger with Doug Mann producing. Mixed by Mann, Krueger, Joey Daub, and Kurt Bachman.
This Pennsylvania quartet unleashes an aural assualt of complex thrash and speed metal.
Fans of Exodus, Metallica or Kreator will enjoy this helping of technical speed metal. Stylistically, it’s somewhere between Vengeance and Deliverance.
«Unite» opens things up with a crunching prelude before singer Kurt Bachman jumps in with his fast-paced, screaming vocals. Most listeners will need a lyric sheet to decipher the 90 m.p.h. lyrics on spiritual warfare, judgment and hope in Christ.
Musicians will appreciate the complex chord structures and time changes performed with precision by Bachman (lead guitar and vocals), Joey Doub (drums), Howe Kroft (bass) and David Boddorf (rhythm guitar).
One highlight, «Vile Hypocrisy», deftly shows the Believer is a tight band worth keeping an eye on. The band’s creativity is also shown on the title track, which features the startling contrast of a violin and viola intro.
