Very Best of Whitecross is a compilation album by the American metal band Whitecross, released on StarSong Records in October 2006, manufactured by EMI CMG Label Group.
Back in the ’80s Whitecross were considered a quintessential Christian metal band. Fronted by guitar hero Rex Carroll and prime screamer Scott Wenzel the band manage to make thoroughly convincing loud guitar albums while wisely eschewing the spandex, leather and big hair excess of many ’80s bands. This cheep and cheerful compilation shows they were a seriously rocking unit with two tracks from ‘Whitecross‘ (1987), two from ‘Hammer & Nail‘ (1988), three from ‘Triumphant Return‘ (1989), four from ‘In The Kingdom‘ (1991) and one cut from ‘High Gear‘ (1992). Gradually as the years moved on the band changed their sound from classic old school riffing to a more hard alternative sound. If you remember them and don’t have their old releases already on your CD shelf, you might want to investigate this engaging assemblage of oldies. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, January 2007]
