Automoloch

Description

Automoloch is a six-track vinyl EP and the sophomore effort by the American punk/hardcore band The Lead, released on Three Equals One in 1986.

Given the response to my review of One Bad Pig in this column – the most letters of inquiry thus far – I know that there are a bunch of punk ‘n’ thrash fans out there waiting to discover The Lead. This Florida-based trio cranks out some awesome noise, really! ‘Automoloch’ has a version of REZ’s «Alienated» that sound, well, alienated. The remaining five tracks rip and tear across the garage band/thrash arena with energy if not finesse. ‘The Past Behind’ is louder, noisier, grittier, faster, and – if I can use the phrase – a “more mature” work. Direct, insightful lyrics (a lyric sheet is required) over a bed of crashes and smashes are guaranteed to relieve tension after a day in the rat race – that is, if you can learn to survive slam dancing with your wall and swan dives off the coffee table. Let’s just dub them the God Pistols. [Brian Quincy Newcomb, CCM, January 1988]
