Eye of the Storm

Description

Eye of the Storm is the sophomore album by the Canadian hard rock band Tempest, released on Pure Metal in 1988, a division of Refuge Music Group. The album was produced by Dan Rudin.

This band doesn’t sound like the same band that debuted with ‘A Coming Storm‘ in late 1987. Tempest has matured into a fine band, cranking out a commercial blend of gritty vocals, fun rhythms, and melodic guitar riffs.

They haven’t fully matured, but there are glimpses of brilliance, like the ballad «Good-bye», which has the classy touch of a Bon Jovi or White Lion. There’s some nice acoustic guitar picking here, along with some ebbing keyboards and emotion-packed guitar leads. J.R. Rowe’s voice sounds really good.

«True Love», «Goin’ Nowhere» and «All For One» are some of the other highlights. It’s fun, mid-western hard rock with lots of feeling.

The rest of the album lacks the consistency of these songs, but they alone make the album worth the $9.98 price. [Doug Van Pelt, CCM, May 1989]
