In Your Face

Description

In Your Face is the sophomore album by the American hard rock/metal band Shout, released on Frontline Records in 1989. Also licenced to Music For Nations. The album was recorded by Dave Jahnsen and Eric Kibbe at The Mixing Lab B in Garden Grove, California; with band member Ken Tamplin producing. Mixed by Dave Jahnsen at The Mixing Lab A.

Featuring Ken Tamplin on lead vocals and lead guitar, Chuck King on lead guitar and vocals, Mark Hugonberger on keyboards, and a rhythm section consisting of bassist Loren Robinson and drummer Joseph Galletta. The title track features guest apperances by guitarists Alex Masi, Joey Price, Lanny Cordola, Marty Friedman, Michael Angelo, and Randy Hansen.

SHOUT plays fast, loud, fast and loud, loud and fast, and ever louder and faster, while managing to express just about every nuance and shade of loudness and fastness in between. And, for a hard rock album bordering on speed metal, that’s the whole idea.

With ‘In Your Face’, Ken Tamplin and Chuck King deliver a pulverizing, virtuous display of amnic, atonal fret-chasing. They may occasionally lose track of the key, but never their sense of humor. Especially funny is the tape-breaking speedup at the end of «Getting Ready». Guys, that causes head wear! Tsk, tsk.

But it’s not all flash and thrash. The lyrics are positive and encouraging, charged with determination, like these from «Waiting For You»: “Now I see the changes, come all over me/ I pray for Your grace and Your mercy I never earned/ … Teach me how Lord and make Your presence known.” A strong follow up effort for SHOUT, ‘In Your Face’ fully lives up to its title.
