Rock in a Hard Place

Description

Rock in a Hard Place is the third album by the American hard rock/metal band Bloodgood, released on Frontline Records in 1988, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington; with Terry B. Shelton producing.

One listen to Bloodgood’s blistering ‘Rock in a Hard Place’ shows how far this band has come from their dinosauric debut, and even last year’s ‘Detonation‘.

Like many metal outfits, Bloodgood has learned to temper its tough metal edge with pop-influenced sensibilities. As a result, some of the songs from ‘Rock in a Hard Place’ may even make it on Christian radio.

Guitarist David Zaffiro, bassist Michael Bloodgood, and drummer J.T. Taylor do a good job, but it’s Les Carlsen’s tough vocals (which sounds like a cross between Petra‘s John Schlitt and Journey’s former vocalist, Steve Perry), that are the most distinctive feature of this band. At times, even the rest of the band sounds like Journey, except with more intensity and distortion.

Terry Shelton’s production is strong, the songs are powerful as well as melodic and memorable, and this record has success written all over it. [Devlin Donaldson and Steve Rabey, CCM, August 1988]
