Fluffy Luvs You

Description

Fluffy Luvs You is the debut album by the American alternative rock band Fluffy, released on Blonde Vinyl Records in 1991, distributed by Spectra Distribution. The album was produced and recorded by band member Chris Colbert at Casbah Recording Studio in Fullerton, California.

Fluffy went through several styles before eventually changing name and members. They started out as a basic L.A. Punk sounding band that was a side project of a couple of the members of Breakfast With Amy (Chris Colbert and Paul Pelligrin). The second album found the band going more alternative and psychedelic even. There was a more obvious Breakfast with Amy influence (although without the goofiness), as well as a heavy L.S.U. influence.

If the question you been staying up late trying to answer is “If Vengeance Rising‘s latest album went gold and they were going out on a major tour – and band’s like Crucified and Believer were too established to play second fiddle – who would open?” the answer is this: Fluffy. Despite the warm fuzzies communicated in this nom de rock, these speed-thrashers are too busy trying to hold up their entrails inside their bodies (see «Ex-communicated»), while growling in their best Roger Martinez over fast guitars and even faster drums, to worry about “sharing good feelings” (to borrow psycho-babble-speak) While speed metal can get real redundant, repetitive and overwrought, Fluffy takes an approach, that while not qualifying as subtle, is best described as varied. Well, varied enough so that if you don’t completely appreciate this music there are some brilliant bits here and there to enjoy, but not so varied that if you totally dig fast, noise rock you’ll feel quite at home. There’s split-second rhythm changes, strong bass and guitar interaction, and even some interesting melodic structure at play. Blonde Vinyl hasn’t supplied me with names, but I know that there are five members, three of which are concurrently in Breakfast With Amy, and three of them are college English majors, which may explain some of the literary references that I was actually able to make out in the lyrics. Fluffy is good, Fluffy is fun, but most of all ‘Fluffy Luvs You’. [Ernest P. Strange, Harvest Rock Syndicate, Issue 2, 1991 (Volume 6)]
