Bryn Haworth Band Live is the sole live album by the British singer, songwriter, and blues guitarist Bryn Haworth, released on Kingsway Music in August 1993. The album was recorded by Neil Costello live at The Abraham Moss Centre/The Cutting Rooms in Manchester, England; and was produced by Bryn Haworth with Costello co-producing. Mixed by Costello at The Music Shed in Derbyshire, England. Compiled and edited by Dave L. Aston at The Digital Audio Co. Brass arrangements by Steve Gregory (except “Word of Our God” arranged by Pete Thoms).
The band features Bryn Haworth on lead vocals and guitar, Dave Bainbridge of Iona fame on keyboards, and a rhythm section consisting of Les Moir and Henry Spinetti on bass and drums respectively. As well featuring Steve Gregory on saxophone and Raul D’Oliveira on trumpet and flugel horn. Backing vocals provided by Julie Costello and John Perry.
Bryn Haworth Band play raunchy, high-energy rhythm ‘n’ blues which is at its very best live. I particularly loved «Saturday Morning», an instrumental which expresses beautifully that weekend feeling through superlative performances by Bryn himself on slide guitar and Dave Bainbridge at the keys, anchored by a rhythm section which is as tight as they come. Indeed, the entire set is so polished that, were it not for that terrific, unexplainable ‘feel’, it would often be easy to forget that they are playing to a real live audience. Steve Gregory (sax) and Raul d’Oliveira (trumpet/flugel horn) together manage to sound like an entire brass section, adding the jazz to that dynamic R&B sound, and the vocal harmonies – evident on «The Lord Is Good» and Curtis Mayfield’s beautiful «People Get Ready» – maintain the outstanding quality of the whole thing.
