Darrell Mansfield – Give Him Your Blues

Description

Give Him Your Blues is an album by the American blues singer, songwriter, and harmonica player Darrell Mansfield, released in Europe on GMI Music Partners in 1992. Also released on Asaph Records in the US the following year.

This is another collection of 11 blues songs both old and new performed by Christendom’s greatest blues harp man and some of his down home buddies. «I Know Jesus Can» and «The Mission» are the two new songs written by Darrell. Reading the lyrics of «The Mission» I could almost believe that Carman had written it. There are covers of three songs from Rev Dan Smith’s album ‘Just Keep Goin’ On‘. Darrell’s versions of these songs are good but they seem a bit bland after listening to the 80-something rev. The rugby spectators’ favourite «Swing Low Sweet Chariot» is also here and features excellent vocals from Darrell. Darrell’s harmonica playing is the point of real creative focus throughout and, as usual, Darrell really blows the back off. This is a great album for harmonica fans. Though this is a great album I still prefer Darrell’s live albums. But if you’re looking for tough gospel blues look this one out. This album has been available in the rest of Europe and the US for over nine months; fortunately, due to a new deal Kingsway have made it should be available in your local Christian bookshop now. [Martin Emerson, Cross Rhythms, February 1994]
