Description
Long Time Comin’ is the third album by the American singer, songwriter, and bluesman Chris Lizotte, released on Metro One Recordings in 1994, distributed by Diamante Music Group. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Chris Wimber, with Chris Lizotte and Brian Ray co-producing. “Hold Me Up” features a duet with Maria McKee of Lone Justice fame.
Lizotte’s third album returns to the R&B feel of his debut while retaining a bit of the blues vibe of his ‘Soul Motion‘ follow-up. Chris’ husky voice continues to grow in range and control; the pairing of that voice and “Sleepy Ray” McDonald’s stringing guitar lines is quite potent. The delicacy of some ballads approches praise and worship (blues praise?), while Lizotte’s duet with Maria McKee (ex-Lone Justice) should strike large at rock radio. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, August 1994]
First heard this a couple of summers ago when I was auditioning songs for UCB. I remember almost shouting out loud with the joy of hearing this because it’s one of those albums packed with emotion! With a voice that’s a cross between pre-Ziggy Bowie and Chris Isaac, ‘Long Time Coming’ has everything: well crafted songs, atmospheric playing and a duet with Maria McKee! «Hold Me Up» features the real gone kid but even Maria’s gutsy yelp doesn’t steal the show from Lizotte’s fine writing and singing. Standouts for me include his bluesy version of Andy Park’s «How Priceless» and the song of God’s grace, «Gonna Take You Back», which opens the show. «Peace Be With You» which he wrote for inmates at a women’s prison where he ministers is a beautiful song. Overall there’s something wonderfully natural about all of this and I just love the organ flavourings and rough diamond guitar parts that pepper this recording. Playing recently with the Black Peppercorns was an inspired combination and if you love Prosch’s music, you just have to get this! Full marks to Kingsway for at long, long last making Lizotte’s music available over here (see the article in CR30). Essential. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, June 1996]
