Mountain Mover

Description

Mountain Mover is the eighth studio album by the British singer, songwriter, and blues guitarist Bryn Haworth, released on Myrrh Records in 1985, a division of Word. The album was recorded August 1985 by Laurence Burrage at Chapel Lane Studios in Hereford, England; with Bryn Haworth producing.

Featuring Bryn Haworth on vocals, guitars and mandolin, Chris Stainton on keyboards, as well as a rhythm section consisting of Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti on bass and drums respectively, with Mel Collins sitting in on saxophone and horns.

In the ’70s Haworth’s songwriting skills and slide guitar work earned him contracts with both Island Records and A&M and four albums released. Sadly the releases didn’t convert into hits and in the early ’80s, his more focussed spiritual songs materialised on the newly formed Chapel Lane Records before Haworth switched to Myrrh Records. I have to confess that I always loved him with a full band, horn section and a mixture of love songs and faith songs and this album sees him going in that direction. There are the bluesy work outs of «Reeling And Rocking» (not the Chuck Berry song) and the instrumental «Saturday Morning» which allow him to cut loose and really play. Backed by musicians who had until recently been Eric Clapton’s live band, the quality is all here from worship songs like «Victory Song» and «Land Of The Living» to the gorgeous love song «Forever In Love». There are also moments when Haworth allows the gentler side to come through on «Slipping And Falling» or gets a little funky on «Making The Most Of What You’ve Got» which features some rather good sax from Mel Collins.
