Description

Film at Eleven is the sophomore solo album by the American singer and songwriter Scott Wenzel of Whitecross fame, released by Temple Productions in 1995, manufactured and distributed by Word Records & Music. The album was produced by Caesar Kalinowski. Mixed by Tom Baker. Includes re-worked versions of two Whitecross songs; “Home In Heaven” and “You’re Mine“.

Scott Wenzel is backed by a session band consisting of Tom Wanca on keyboards (with Pat Bergeson sitting in on harmonium), Tony Palacios of Guardian fame on guitar, Mark Robertson of This Train and A Ragamuffin Band fame on bass, Bam Bam Wagner on drums and percussion, and Chris Papa on percussion. Backing vocals provided by Beki Hemingway, John Cox, Keoni, and Tom Wanca.

A lot of heavy metal buffs were seriously disappointed by Scott’s debut solo album ‘Heart Like Thunder‘ after his halcyon days with heavy metal pioneers Whitecross. I don’t suppose this set either will make the cries of “wimp-out” die down. For Scott pursues the same path of hooky pop-rock. At times the effect is thoroughly engaging, for instance the opening «That’s Not Enough» has a great hook. On other occasions the weakness of Scott’s material recalls Mark Farner on a bad day. He needs a producer to sift out the weaker songs. In the meantime any fans he has left had better pick out the good cuts here. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, August 1995]
