Windows of Heaven

Description

Windows of Heaven is the solo debut album by the American singer, songwriter, and producer John Elefante of Kansas and Mastedon fame, released on Word Entertainment in 1995.

After a tenure as lead vocalist for the legendary rock group Kansas, John Elefante has spent most of his time together with his brother Dino producing records for their Pakaderm label. Now it’s time for a new chapter in the Elefante book, as John steps out with his first solo album. Having been in the works for around a decade, these nine songs were written and recorded over the last four years. Listening to the album you might think it was even longer ago, since it sounds like a throwback to a lot of great rock albums from the ’80s.

If you don’t mind the dated production, surely you’ll be impressed by the insightful lyrics. Having written all of the songs on the album, the brothers, John and Dino, whip up an entertaining blend of pop/rockers and emotive ballads that cry out to be played at an outdoor festival under the stars, especially the album highlight, «That’s Why God Made the Moon», where John sings about the longing to know God and to be with Him in heaven.

Fans of his earlier work will not be disappointed, and new fans will definitely be drawn to his exceptional voice and meaningful message. [Mark A. Smeby, CCM, June 1995]
