Description
Sanctuary is the third album by the American singer and songwriter John Cox, independently released by Cox in 2005, licensed to and distributed by KO-Records, a division of Kaluboné Records. (Nashville-based Christian distributor TAG Artist Group also partnered with KO-Records to distribute the album.) Released under licence in the UK and Europe by ICC Records in November 2006. The album was produced in part by former Petra keyboardist John Lawry.
Featuring John Cox on lead and background vocals backed by Todd Shay on guitars, Tom Michael on bass, and Brett Vargason on drums and percussion.
John Cox is an acoustic rock singer/songwriter/guitarist from Chico, Texas whose 1996 album ‘Sunny Day‘ is today considered a bit of a classic amongst the CCM cognoscente. The fact that we’ve had to wait until 2006 for his third album shows that this consummate songsmith isn’t one of these chaps who pens songs at the drop of a hat but rather he is a thoughtfully passionate man of God who writes simply yet profoundly. Two of the songs on this set, the opener «Sanctuary» and the haunting «Wash Them Away» have both scaled the dizzy heights of the Cross Rhythms playlist and deservingly so. With hundreds of acoustic-orientated singer/songwriters putting out CDs which are either shallow Scripture re-writes or alone-in-my-room-thinking-of-her indulgencies, it’s a delight to encounter a man who has found the meaning of life and can express his discovery without cliché.
