Description
Deep Sustained Booming Sounds is the debut album by the American techno duo Rhythm Saints (Stephen Nixon and Lee-Jane Nixon), released on N*Soul Records in 1994, distributed in the US by Diamante Music Group. Also marketed and distributed by Alliance Music in Europe. The album was produced by band member Stephen Nixon with instrumentation by Zarc Porter of The Worldwide Message Tribe fame. Tracks 2-5, 7, and 9 recorded and mixed by Zarc Porter and Stephen Nixon at Perfect Music in Manchester, England. Track 1 recorded and mixed at Perfect Music N*Soul in California. Tracks 6, 8, and 10 recorded and mixed at N*Soul Studios in California. Featuring vocals by Sani Gamedze, Lee-Jane Nixon, Rebecca Avalos, SST and the Heavyfoot. Written by Zarc Porter and Stephen Nixon except track 1 and 10 written by Robert Wright and Vassal Benford.
Truly an international release from the N-Soul stable, this album was written and performed by Steve Nixon and Worldwide Message Tribesman Zarc Porter in Manchester, has vocals added by a lady called Sani, who’s from Swaziland, and was produced by Scott Blackwell. It’s an album that lives up to its title with a very controlled exploration of current European dance sounds. It’s quite sparse in its use of rhythm and this, combined with Zarc’s wonderfully spacey keyboard sounds, produces a slightly ambient feel to the whole project. In fact, the effect is such that the more instrumental tracks can sound a bit aimless and the album works best on songs like «Sweet Liberation» when the vocals are able to provide the momentum. The stand out track for me, though, is «Scenes From A Tribal Landscape» in which another of Manchester’s Tribesman, the Heavyfoot, appears and weaves in some recognisable themes.
